New Orleans struggles for space at Super Bowl with private jets fleeing airport following Chiefs’ defeat to Eagles

PRIVATE jets clogged up airspace near two airports in New Orleans after Super Bowl LIX.

The Philadelphia Eagles claimed the NFL‘s highest honor for the second time with a comprehensive 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, who were looking for a third straight Super Bowl win.

But like with all major sports events, getting home is half the hassle.

Chaos struck for air traffic controllers at Lakefront Airport late on Sunday night as planes struggled for space.

A caravan of private jets were documented and tracked along Louisiana’s Lake Pontchartrain leaving the New Orleans area.

Nearly all of them likely belonged to the many celebs and billionaires heading home from the Super Bowl at the Superdome.

Lakefront Airport aviation director Bruce Martin estimated that around 1,200 private planes were expected over the weekend.

Most commercial flights flew into the larger Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Martin told Fox8live.com: “‘Here, at Lakefront, you’re going to get the NFL owners, the major corporations and celebrities.”

Judging by the animated time-lapsed graphic, most jets flew back to a few specific locations.

Naturally some flights were seen returning to the Philadelphia or the New Jersey area, where many wealthy Eagles fans reside.

While, chiefs fans headed towards the Kansas-Missouri border that night.

But there was a huge amount of traffic returning to the Palm Beach, Florida– the graphic shows a direct trail crossing the airspace near the Tampa Bay end of the Gulf of Mexico.

President Donald Trump travelled in Air Force Once from Palm Beach to New Orleans for the game.

Temporary flying restrictions were put in place in the area due to the presence of the commander-in-chief’s plane.

But movement opened up again when Trump – who became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl – left the game early to return to his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Billionaire New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft – who has six Super Bowls to his name – also own homes in Palm Beach.

But, it is unclear if Kraft flew to the game from Florida or elsewhere.

The public facility at Lakefront received between 200 and 400 aircraft landing per day in the week leading up to the game.

Caesars Superdome was sold out to watch the Chiefs get blown out, but the official attendance was 65,719.

More than 100,000 people descended on New Orleans for last week.

Many of those people stayed for the game and flew out on Monday.

Naturally, it was also a mess inside the airports on Monday, as both dealt with major delays at security.

A hologram inside the Super Bowl 59 fan program set off machines inside the airport, according to local reports.

Several plane crashes have occurred in the United States during the first two months of the year.

All sixty-seven people on board of a passenger plane tragically died after hitting a military helicopter mid-air near Washington DC‘s Ronald Reagan airport on January 30.
