DALLAS COWBOYS superstar Micah Parsons could be on his way out of Texas.
While rumors have swirled around the star defender all season, they now appear more concrete.
Parsons, 25, will enter the final year of his rookie contract next season.
He will play on a fifth-year option, which pays him a fully guaranteed salary of $24 million.
Parsons, who was pictured at the Super Bowl with Lionel Messi and Tyreek Hill, has made the Pro Bowl in ALL of his first four seasons in the league and is in line for a huge extension.
There are estimates he will command north of $30m per season.
However, Dallas just signed Dak Prescott (four years, $240m) and CeeDee Lamb (four years, $136m) to massive contraacts – and may not be able to afford their star rusher.
According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones has had “internal discussions” on the situation.
In an article published on Sunday, they wrote: “While there have been no trade talks, sources say there have at least been some internal discussions about whether to pay Parsons or trade him for a king’s ransom.”
The Cowboys are currently projected to be $2.38m over the cap next season.
Prescott and Lamb could restructure their deals and create up to $57.74m in savings, according to Over the Cap.
A Parsons extension would eat into that figure and the Cowboys are desperate for help given they just came off a 7-10 season and missed the playoffs.
Speaking in December, Parsons hinted that he wants to stay with the Cowboys – but knows he is among the elite and should be paid as such.
The rusher, who has logged 52.5 sacks in his four seasons as a pro, said: “If you gonna want me, I’m the best in the business.”
He added: “It would be nice to be surrounded by good players.
“Players are going to help you win championships. I want to keep as many guys as possible. … I want to work with them as much as possible.
“I don’t need $40 million per year. I need to be somewhere where I can have a lake house.”
Despite Dallas’ obvious struggles and flaws last season, one man who was left shocked by their performances was Jones himself.
“I wouldn’t have signed Dak Prescott, the highest-paid player in the NFL, if now wasn’t when when we wanted to win.
“This is a shocker to be here at this Super Bowl and not have the Cowboys here.
“I didn’t plan on that when I made that agreement with him.
“So we’re going to do everything we can to get there.”
