A host of Wales legends have turned on Warren Gatland after a record-equalling 14th successive Six Nations loss to Italy in Rome.
Defeat means Wales slip to 12th in the world rankings, a record low, below Georgia and only marginally above Japan.
Gatland offered his resignation after defeat to Italy in Cardiff last year, but Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) chief executive Abi Tierney rejected the suggestion out of hand.
'Ill-disciplined' Wales suffer 14th straight loss in Six Nations against Italy

Former Wales captain Gwyn Jones has called for his departure after the Italy defeat, telling the BBC’s Scrum V podcast: “The boys gave everything but the gameplan is extremely limited against teams more powerful.
“There were times [against Italy] when we were so passive and looked like we didn’t know how to change what we were doing.
“Gatland has never had a plan B. Plan B has always been to just do plan A better.
“Against Italy it’s as if we were just walking to the gallows without a plan to get out of the way and we’re just waiting for Gatland to go because he cannot stay, regardless of the other problems in Welsh rugby.”
Meanwhile, former fly-half Dan Biggar told ITV: “I don’t think anything is off the table at the moment [around sacking Gatland], it can’t be. It can’t carry on.
“It is such a shame because there are so many good people there who have had success previously but clearly what is happening in the week is not working on the pitch.”
Another ex-Wales captain, hooker Ken Owens, was similarly scathing on the state of Welsh rugby. He referenced an internal review into Gatland’s position in December.

“They didn’t say they have a plan and it’s going to take time, but they didn’t back Warren either. It’s like they will see how it goes in the Six Nations and have another review.
“It’s going to take five to 10 years to sort out the shambles we’re in at the moment, at least.
“That’s what Italy have done. When they were losing every game in the Six Nations, they went to the academy, to the under-18s and under-20s and built from there.”
And centre Jamie Roberts, who earned the last of his 94 Wales caps in 2017, said on ITV: “I think everyone in Wales was expecting a kick back from the disappointing night in Paris last weekend [where Wales lost 43-0].
“Our kicking game at times tonight was schoolboy. You just can’t win Test matches, especially in the rain, against a quality Italian outfit who did it far better.”
