— San Diego Padres (@Padres) February 8, 2025He drafted by the Pirates in the first round (39th overall) of the 2014 draft. In his final year playing for USD, in addition to being named Player of the Year, he was also a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist after batting .367 and leading the conference with 51 RBI.
The Padres have had a slow offseason but with Joe’s signing appear to be looking to fill the hole created by the loss of left fielder Jurickson Profar.
They also reportedly have signed free agent outfielder Jason Heyward, who played for the Dodgers and Astros last year.
The Padres announced the Joe deal Saturday, but have yet to confirm an agreement with Heyward, a five-time Gold Glove winner and career .256 hitter who started his career with the Braves and won a World Series with the Cubs. The Athletic reported the Heyward signing.
