Mel Kiper Jr: Tetairoa McMillan a top 10 prospect, Cam Skattebo outside top 5 RBs in NFL Draft

Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan and Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo had amazing seasons for their respective schools and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked both prospects among the top 10 players at their respective positions for the upcoming draft.

Kiper lists McMillan as the seventh ranked prospect in his list of top 25 prospects for the NFL Draft and the second-ranked wide receiver, just behind Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter from Colorado.

That would have McMillan heading to the New York Jets with the seventh overall pick. McMillan at 6-foot-5, 212 pounds would complement a Jets wide receivers group headlined by Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson.

As a junior, McMillan recorded 84 receptions, 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns. He was third in the nation in total receiving yards and first in the Big 12.

Those numbers are a little down from his 2023 season as a sophomore where he had 90 receptions, 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns.

McMillan finished as the Wildcats’ career leader in receiving yards with 3,423 receiving yards.

McMillan is a big-bodied receiver who can be a mismatch for smaller corners. And his great size, body control, concentration and hands help him consistently win in contested-catch situations. He can snatch the ball and make it look easy. And while McMillan plays with more physicality than speed, he generates late separation to get open. He was third in receiving yards in the country.

On the Arizona State side, Skattebo was not in Kiper’s top 25 overall prospects, but he did list the ASU running back eighth in positional rankings.

Cam Skattebo listed in running back rankings

    1. Ashton Jeanty, Boise State 2. Omarion Hampton, North Carolina 3. Dylan Sampson, Tennessee 4. LeQuint Allen, Syracuse 5. Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State 6. TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State 7. Kaleb Johnson, Iowa 8. Cam Skattebo, Arizona State 9. Trevor Etienne, Georgia 10. Devin Neal, Kansas

Skattebo would probably not appreciate that ranking, as he did dub himself as the best running back in the nation.

“Nobody respects the fact that I’m the best running back in the country,” Skattebo said in his postgame presser versus Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship game. “I’m going to stand on that. If people want to disrespect that, I’m going to keep going and proving people wrong.”

The entire country saw what Skattebo did to Texas in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game:

    – 29 attempts, 141 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns

    – Seven receptions, 86 receiving yards

    – 1 of 1 passing attempts, 42 passing yards and one passing touchdown

Skattebo finished fifth in Heisman voting after he rushed for 1,711 yards for 21 touchdowns on 293 carries. He also had 45 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns.

He was second in the nation in total rushing yards behind Jeanty. Skattebo was also sixth in the country in total rushing touchdowns.
