Ruud van Nistelrooy will make his return to Old Trafford on Friday night as his Leicester side take on Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The Foxes travel to face their manager’s beloved Red Devils hoping to spring a shock to reach the fifth round of the competition.

Van Nistelrooy eliminated Leicester at this stage of the Carabao CupGetty

Leicester have lost away at Man United twice already this season, ironically while Van Nistelrooy was in interim charge of them after Erik ten Hag was sacked.

United have never won three home games in a single campaign against one club before so they’ll now look to make history.

Ruben Amorim‘s time in England has been dismal so far and another loss to a Leicester team that have lost eight of their last ten in all competitions would continue that misery.

Amorim needs a win to bring some positivity to UnitedGetty This is the fourth FA Cup meeting between Manchester United and Leicester City – the Red Devils won the first two (3-1 in the 1962-63 final, 2-1 in the 1975-76 fifth round) while the Foxes won 3-1 in the most recent game in the 2020-21 quarter-final on their way to lifting the trophy. Manchester United have won 16 of their last 18 home FA Cup matches (D2), although one of those draws saw them eliminated on penalties by Middlesbrough in February 2022. The last visiting side to win in normal time at Old Trafford were Arsenal in March 2015, a 2-1 victory.

Man United vs Leicester: Team news

The home side could hand a debut to new signings Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven in this FA Cup clash.

Kobbie Mainoo played in a false-nine role last time out, but it’s likely that Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee come back in.

Lisandro Martinez is set to be out for the season with a knee ligament injury while Luke Shaw has suffered a setback in his recovery.

As for Leicester, they could be set to welcome Wilfred Ndidi back to the squad after his long spell in the treatment room.

15-year-old academy star Jeremy Monga is going to be part of the travelling team along with 16-year-old Jake Evans.

Van Nistelrooy will be back at Old Trafford after his short interim spellGetty Leicester City have progressed from seven of their last eight FA Cup fourth-round ties; the other was a 4-1 away defeat to Nottingham Forest in 2021-22. Bruno Fernandes has been involved in 10 goals in his last 10 FA Cup appearances for Manchester United (7 goals, 3 assists), scoring their goal in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the third round this year.

Man United vs Leicester: What has been said?

Amorim has addressed Marcus Rashford’s departure after his constant omission of the former United star.

The United boss said: “Guys, in the summer, like we said before, we are fighting for our jobs until the summer.

“I am just focused on these games. Marcus is in Birmingham now with Unai, we are just focused on our players.”

He continued to asses his options up front after Antony departed on loan too, saying: “We have to find players to play in different positions.

“You can see the way we play it’s going to take time and not solve all the problems, we have many shots inside the box and catch one player.

“Amad [Diallo] can score more, Bruno [Fernandes] can score more, Kobbie Mainoo can score more playing in that position on the pitch.”
