Sport PressBee .. talksport Watch the post from ‘It was outrageous’ – Paige Spiranac got breathless watching Bryson DeChambeau as she recalls viral video, Now to the details
Influencer Paige Spiranac says she was utterly stunned watching Bryson DeChambeau hit golf balls in person.
Spiranac and DeChambeau are two of the most popular golfing personalities on the internet.
Ex-pro Spiranac rose to fame on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, boasting more followers on social media than Tiger Woods.
Meanwhile, DeChambeau is a two-time major-winner, but spends much of his time driving millions of views on YouTube.
In 2024, the two famous faces teamed up for collaborative video which went viral among the golf community.
DeChambeau is known for his unworldly distance off the tee, sending drives further than most golfers could ever dream of.
And speaking to talkSPORT at Super Bowl LIX’s ‘Radio Row’, Spiranac reveals she was blown away by the in-person experience.
The American model said: “Being able to play with him in person is outrageous.
“Watching him hit the golf ball, you get breathless. The sound of it, how far it flies… it’s something like you’ve never seen before.
“He’ll hit it a little bit on the toe and he’ll say, ‘Oh man, it’s only going to go 310 yards’. And he’s using my 5 wood!”
DeChambeau will tee it up for The Crushers when LIV Golf’s 2025 season begins under the lights in Riyadh this week.
The 2024 US Open champion was not always so well-liked – but having freed himself up from content restraints on the PGA Tour – DeChambeau has been able to show fans a different side on social media.
DeChambeau is one of few players to truly thrive since joining LIV GolfGetty Spiranac joined talkSPORT in New Orelans ahead of the Super Bowl and spoke about golf and the brilliance of DeChambeauSpiranac added: “It’s been a really interesting transformation for Bryson, When he was playing on the PGA Tour, he was hated. There was a lot of discourse online.
“It turns out that he was misunderstood and his real, true personality has come out now. He’s really been able to showcase that on social media.
“It’s cool to see people rallying around him and see him showing off his personality. It makes golf more accessible for people.”
She continued: “I don’t want to speak for him, but it was probably quite hard to play at the highest level when he was facing all of that scrutiny.
“For him to now be universally loved, it’s helped him play better golf. We saw that last season when he was playing some of the best golf of his career.
“It doesn’t matter what tour he’s on. It’s more about the frame of mind he’s in.”
DeChambeau will also soon be seen in Happy Gilmore 2, the much anticipated sequel to the 1996 hit starring Adam Sandler.
In a trailer released by Netflix, he was joined by Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas among others for a behind the scenes look.
Spiranac, meanwhile, has launched a new website called ‘Las Paigeas’ with Sportsgrid in the build up to the Super Bowl which means she will be working on other sports in addition to golf given it is a destination for fantasy gambling.
For now, though, she will be in Arizona for the Phoenix Open, which is known for its party-filled weekend – something Happy Gilmore character Shooter McGavin would hate.
It’s always pure carnage in Scottsdale, which flies in the face of golf’s stuffy reputationGetty Images - GettyHowever she told talkSPORT: “The misconception in golf is that it’s boring, it’s stuffy, it’s this elitist sport.
“When the WM rolls around, it’s all about youth and having fun and it’s a really lively atmosphere. Golf is usually about silent claps and not being too loud.
“When players miss the green on 16, they get booed. You don’t do that in golf.
“But it’s one of my favourite events to go to. You don’t want that every week in golf.
“I think it’s fun to have a mix of that and the more conservative events.”
