Luke Littler has perfect response for darts legend who accused him of ‘letting his country down’

Luke Littler has hit back at darts legend Dennis Priestley after he claimed the reigning World Champion ‘let his country down’.

The 18-year-old sensation and Luke Humphries teamed up to represent England in the World Cup of Darts last week.

But despite being major tournament favourites, the World No.1 and No.2 were knocked out at the first hurdle by Germany.

It was a major shock and led to honest verdicts coming from fellow professionals about their supposed failure.

1994 Darts World Championship winner, Priestley, also weighed in on the matter, but with some very harsh words.

Speaking to OLBG, he said: “Luke Littler and Luke Humphries let their country down at the World Cup of Darts, from what we’ve heard they weren’t sitting together or practising together.

“When I was playing in pairs with Phil Taylor we practised together and sat together, we played all over the world and I only remember us getting beaten once.”

Priestley then went on to add that Littler and Humphries don’t deserve their MBEs, which they were recently awarded in the King’s Birthday Honours.

“To be brutally honest, I don’t think either Luke Littler or Luke Humphries have done enough to earn their MBEs just yet,” he said.

“I think in time they could’ve done enough to warrant it but it feels very early, they have both won one World Championship each and are still young in their careers

“Littler has been recognised for raising the popularity of darts which is great, but he can still do so much more.

“If he is getting an MBE this soon then you’d have to think he is on the right path to a knighthood, nothing would surprise me now.”

But Littler has sent a perfect response to Priestley, replying to the legend on his Instagram story.

The teenager posted a screenshot of an article posted by GB News that included the brutal comments.

And he wrote the caption: “Don’t deserve the MBE but done more in 12 months than he ever did…that’s what I would say anyway.”

was accompanied by an emoji that seemed to indicate Littler’s smugness at his public reply.

Priestley made history during his 25-year playing career, becoming the first player to ever win the BDO and PDC world titles.

However, Littler does have some bragging rights after his claim.

When looking at entire careers, Littler has already won more than the 74-year-old did when he was playing.

Littler has won 54 titles in total at the age of 18, with nine of those coming in majors or PDC Tours.

Priestley only won 47 titles across 25 years in the sport.

On top of that, Littler has also now been awarded an MBE for his incredible impact on darts thanks to his rise to stardom.

Priestley may be a legend, but Littler is sure to be well on his way already to becoming one of the best ever.
