TRAVIS Kelce crashed out, as the kids say, when he pushed Andy Reid during a fiery moment on the sidelines in the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl win last season.
The Chiefs seemed dead and buried against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 until Kelce’s sequence woke them up to come back to claim the victory and they now have a chance to three-peat with their big game matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
During the second quarter of the showdown, down 3-0, the Chiefs were driving and on the opposing nine-yard line when running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled.
The cameras then showed Kelce bumping into Reid on the sideline as the star tight end was frustrated that he wasn’t on the field for the play.
“He caught me off balance. I wasn’t watching,” Reid said during a postgame press conference.
After a punt from each team, the 49ers scored a touchdown with 4:23 left in the second quarter to make it a 10-0 lead.
The Chiefs, who beat the Eagles in the previous Super Bowl, were looking like a team that couldn’t handle a two-peat.
But Kelce’s passion for the game was a factor in their comeback.
After just one catch in the first half, Kelce wound up being the team’s leading receiver with nine receptions for 93 yards.
Kansas City star Patrick Mahomes led a game-tying drive to force the game into overtime.
And the Chiefs came out on top with a 25-22 win thanks to a three-yard passing touchdown from Mahomes to the unlikely hero Mecole Hardman.
After the game, Kelce told reporters he turned the game around when the Chiefs stopped “playing like a jabroni, man.”
Kansas City has made it to the Super Bowl in five of the last six seasons, winning three of those thanks to Kelce’s services.
Two of those wins came against the 49ers and one of them came versus the Eagles.
The Chiefs will also look to claim a second Super Bowl victory over the latter team, and it would come in historic fashion.
The 10-time Pro Bowler Kelce and the Chiefs are eying the league’s first-ever three-peat.
His girlfriend, music icon Taylor Swift, is expected to be in attendance at Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on Sunday night.
