The South’s domination of the Orange County All-Star Classic reached new levels on Saturday.
The South claimed its 10th consecutive victory in the county all-star football game and won the inaugural O.C. all-star girls flag football game at Orange Coast College.
In the 65th edition of the football game, Dana Hills quarterback Vanden Dugger threw a 46-yard touchdown to Tesoro wide receiver Campbell Schamel in the fourth quarter to lift the South to a 14-7 victory.
On the play, Dugger scrambled to his left and threw on the run to an open Schamel for the go-ahead score with 6:03 left in the fourth quarter.
South defensive end Luke Averell of San Juan Hills and La Habra defensive end Ulavai Fetuli were selected the game MVPs.
The North tied the score 7-7 in the second quarter on 2-yard touchdown run by Nate Lewis of Villa Park.
The South opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run by South starting quarterback Tommy Acosta.
Foothill’s Gino Marchetti started at quarterback for the North.
The South extended its lead in the all-time series to 36-26-3. The North last won the game in 2014.
In the inaugural Orange County all-star girls flag football game, the South defeated the North 12-6 in overtime.
JSerra’s Shea Gonzales caught the winning touchdown in overtime from Portola’s Bianca Morrell and was named South MVP.
San Juan Hills’ Sydney Hogancamp also caught a TD from Morrell.
Fullerton’s Olivia Yturriaga caught a touchdown from El Dorado’s Nia Gille and was selected the North MVP.
