Jordan Henderson was involved in a tense exchange with a journalist, who was probing about his reported Ajax row.
The ex-Liverpool captain was reported to be closing in on a move to French club Monaco after requesting to leave the Dutch giants on a free transfer.
A report added that Henderson removed the armband before their Europa League win against Galatasaray on Thursday.
Others said that the decision over the captaincy that night was made by head coach Francesco Farioli though.
It was claimed that he told Ajax to let him go for free or he’ll never play for them again, something that he has since refuted.
He was forced to deny the reports again in a dispute with a journalist in his latest press conference.
Asked why he wanted to move to Monaco, Henderson replied: “Based on what, again?
“The coach told you that I wanted to go to Monaco because I had a big offer? That’s not true. No.”
Asked if it was true that Ajax wanted to sell him, Henderson said: “Well, they were negotiating so I imagine they did, yeah.
“They were negotiating a fee. It’s not about about the details. I’m not giving you details.
“I know the truth, I know what happened. I’m not here to give you details, I’m just saying from my side…”
Interrupted by the reporter who asked once again for details, Henderson said: “I don’t need to, you can though. It sounds like you can.”
Henderson will keep the captaincy after his his Ajax future has been decidedGettySaying that Henderson read the details in the report, the midfielder said: “Yeah and it was untrue. 99 per cent of it.”
Probed on being convinced to stay by head coach Farioli, Henderson said: “It wasn’t him and he didn’t need to convince me. Nobody convinced me.
“Again, you’re going into the detail. It’s not about the detail.”
Asked again to give the details, Henderson replied: “I don’t need to. I don’t need to sit here and defend. You don’t know the information.”
Farioli confirmed that Henderson was still captain, saying: “Yes, he is the captain of Ajax.
“Why should I lose an important player, a key player as he is? There’s no reason.
Henderson will be hoping to finish the season in style for the Dutch sideGetty“I think he’s showing his character, his leadership. The armband is just a piece you’re wearing, nothing more than that.”
Henderson joined Ajax in January 2024 after a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia with Al Ettifaq.
His contract was mutually terminated by the Saudi Pro League side.
Since then he has made 45 appearances for the Dutch side.
