Angel Reese sent a simple message of support to Coco Gauff after the French Open champion admitted she has been blown away by recent attention.
The American tennis star beat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Paris last weekend to secure the second Grand Slam of her young career.
Gauff won 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4 in a rollercoaster final at Roland Garros, and has since been on a press tour in New York to discuss her success.
During her visit to the Big Apple, the 21-year-old stopped by Barclays Center to watch the WNBA champion New York Liberty play the Chicago Sky.
Gauff, who netted an impressive $2.84million for her French Open win, has since admitted she was not expecting such a warm welcome at the arena.
“I’m just wrapping up a two-day press tour that I did in New York, and I just came from the Liberty game,” she said, in a video shared on social media.
“They announced that I was there, and the whole arena was cheering for me, which I wasn’t expecting. Just because it’s not my sport, you know, I’m at a basketball game.
“And it just made me realize how many people see me. This is crazy.
“I really appreciate you guys. Every congratulations, every ‘we love you’, every ‘we support you’, every ‘I was rooting for you’ — it really means a lot to me.
“I know in interviews sometimes I try to hold the emotions back and right now I’m trying to do it. I’m feeling the tears coming but it just it means a lot.”
WNBA star Reese, who broke a record in Chicago’s 85-66 loss to New York on Tuesday, saw Gauff’s message and responded with a four-word statement.
“WE LOVE YOU CO,” she wrote, in a comment section that was flooded with support.

After her triumph at the French Open, Gauff also discovered a little-known rule as she departed Paris.
The Suzanne-Lenglen cup — which has been awarded to the women’s singles champion since 1979 — actually has to remain at Roland Garros.
Instead of boarding her jet back to the United States with the actual trophy, Gauff was given a miniature replica to commemorate her victory at the tournament.
“This is the trophy that you guys see, the one that we take pictures with, do press with and all that,” the American told her TikTok followers, gesturing to a picture of her holding the cup.
“But, actually, we don’t get to take this home. This stays with the tournament.”
Gauff revealed that she has not taken the real French Open trophy homeAFP Instead, she returned to the US with a tiny replica trophyTikTok: Coco GauffShe then showed off her replica to the camera.
Gauff continued: “This is the one we take home. It’s like a mini replica of the trophy. I guess to compare it, it’s really small.
“But, it’s the memories that matter the most.”
That video caught the eye of tennis icon Andy Murray, who urged the tournament organisers to offer better prizes to players.
“Surely the tennis majors can do a better job with the replica trophies!?” he wrote on social media
“They are tiny.”
