The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of offensive lineman Teven Jenkins.
Teven Jenkins’ 2024 Snapshot
The Chicago Bears offensive line was ranked No. 24 during the 2024 season by Pro Football Focus recently, and Teven Jenkins was one of the few bright spots within that group. Jenkins’ 75.4 overall grade ranked 13th among guards, his 75.8 pass-blocking grade ranked 10th, and his 74.3 run-blocking grade ranked 14th.
While Jenkins graded out as one of the better guards in the league, injuries only allowed him to play 738 snaps, which ranked 55th among guards. He was penalized four times, which ranked 85th among guards. And he allowed four sacks, which ranked 109th among guards.

Jenkins’ injury history has been a concern since he entered the league. Selected 39th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, he missed a substantial portion of his rookie season due to back surgery. In subsequent seasons, he faced various injuries, including a neck injury in 2023 that landed him on injured reserve.
As Jenkins approaches unrestricted free agency in March, the Bears face a critical decision regarding his future with the team. While his on-field performance has been commendable, his recurring health issues raise concerns about his long-term durability. Some analysts predict that the Bears may part ways with Jenkins, considering his availability challenges over the past four seasons.

Has Jenkins played his final snap with Chicago? Chicago Tribune reporter Brad Biggs thinks so. Here’s a transcription of his view on how Chicago sees Jenkins during a December interview on local radio station 670 The Score.
“They really need to firm up that interior. I don’t believe they will be inclined to attempt to re-sign Teven Jenkins, who left yesterday’s game with a calf injury. He’s been on the injury report with five different body parts this season. I think he needs a fresh start elsewhere. I think the best-case scenario for Teven might be a one-year prove-it deal, go out there and show you can get on the field and stay on the field. I just don’t know that’s the case, I’ve never seen an offensive lineman leave games with such regularity.”
If Chicago decides to move on from the oft-injured Jenkins, they will be staring at the tall task of acquiring three starters for the offensive line through free agency and the NFL Draft, with a glaring hole at both guard and center positions. Jenkins has been serviceable to good when on the field, but as Biggs said, the number of games he’s missed, and even more alarming, the number of games he hasn’t been able to finish, is baffling.
