Boebert embarrasses herself again
Once again, Lauren Boebert has embarrassed herself on the national stage. Her excessive fear of transgenders led her to falsely accuse another occupant of a ladies room in the Capitol, for which she had to apologize. Just because someone doesn’t match your expectation of what a woman should look like, or how she should dress, doesn’t give you the right to insult them.
Boebert has her own private bathroom in her Capitol office, so she is not forced to use the public bathrooms that she worries will be invaded by women who are not feminine enough. With everything going on in our country at the moment, it would be more reassuring if Boebert and our other legislators stopped framing these bathroom incidents as a national security risk and turned their attention to the price of groceries or the possibility of a bird flu pandemic.

Is there no justice in America anymore?
President Trump’s pardon of the Jan. 6 rioters concluded his executive orders on his first day in office last Tuesday, Jan. 21. Despite Vice President JD Vance’s assurance that violent criminals should not be pardoned, President Trump did pardon 140 people who had been either convicted of violence against the Capitol police or seditious conspiracy. Most of these people had plead guilty and had started serving their sentences. So now President Trump’s granting immunity to those criminals of violent crimes makes them above the law. It’s only fitting in today’s world since President Trump is a convicted felon himself.
Many Republicans have justified these pardons since President Biden pardoned his son Hunter, who was convicted for three felonies for tax evasion and failure to pay federal taxes over several years. These were certainly very serious crimes and unacceptable to me, but they were not the same magnitude as seditious conspiracy and the significant violence against police officers. Some of violence led to permanent injury or death in a few officers.
So has there been any real serious objection to these pardons for those most significant Jan. 6 convicted criminals? A few Republicans (Sen. Graham, Thune, and Tillis) as well as several Democrats have disagreed with the decision. However a Senate resolution to condemn President Trump’s pardons of the most violent attackers was blocked by GOP Sen. Barrasso. The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) who had endorsed President Trump’s candidacy, stated that “when perpetrators of serious crimes are not held accountable, it sends a dangerous message that the consequences are not severe, and potentially emboldening others to commit similar acts of violence.”
At least to me, the concept that “No man is above the law” doesn’t seem to be true anymore. The idea of presidential pardons is certainly not new but has gotten out of hand. We must all speak up loud and clear when injustices occur.
