Premiere Date Set for New John Mulaney Neflix Show Everybodys Live

We finally know when we'll all be in California as Netflix has officially announced the premiere date for Everybody's Live with John Mulaney. Born out of John Mulaney Presents... Everybody's in L.A., the premiere date announcement was made at the "Next on Netflix" event in January for the new venture. The comedian has already set the tone for the return of his show, stating, "We will never be relevant. We will never be your source for news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.” He also added that “not since Harry and Megan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan."

The show comes after Netflix's expanse into live television, including the Mulaney host talk show in 2024. Airing six episodes from May 3 to 10, the talk show streamed live each night. Following its success, a new show was picked up by the streamer in October 2024. John Mulaney, a former writer on Saturday Night Live, will also host the show with announcer and sidekick Richard Kind.

Like Everybody's in L.A., it is expected he will perform a monologue, interview guests, take live calls and feature musical performances. Though not an L.A. native, Mulaney claimed the city both confused and fascinated him. His persona, one that combines both professionalism with absurdity, was a perfect fit for a talk show host that both stuck to convention and broke the mold. The new show is set to air live on Wednesdays for a 12-episode run.

Here's everything to know about Everybody's Live with John Mulaney.

John Mulaney is a comedian from Chicago, Illinois. He was a writer on Saturday Night Live from 2008 to 2013 where he most notably co-created the character Stefon (co-created and performed by Bill Hader). He was nominated four times along with the writing team for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and won while writing for the 2011 Emmys.

Upon leaving the show, Fox ordered a pick-up on his sitcom Mulaney. Hoping to do a show in the style of sitcom he grew up watching, the live-audience and multi-camera show initially received poor reviews and was canceled after the first season. Nevertheless, Mulaney had success with his stand-up performances. His third special, The Comeback Kid, was released on Netflix in November 2015 to rave reviews. He began to work on several other projects, including Documentary Now!, Oh, Hello on Broadway and Maya & Marty, often collaborating with fellow SNL alumni.

Everybody's in L.A. was not the first time Mulaney has worked with Netflix. In addition to several stand-up specials, he also is a voice and consulting producer on Big Mouth and he wrote and performed in John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch, a children's musical special comedy in 2019.

Mulaney has navigated many personal and publicized challenges. The comedian had shared stories about his issues with substance abuse (alcohol, cocaine and prescription drugs) in stand-up specials but relapsed in September 2020, that led to  an intervention from his friends Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll and Bill Hader. He subsequently checked into rehab. In 2021, he announced that he and his girlfriend, Olivia Munn, were expecting a child. He divorced from his wife Annamarie Tendler in January 2022 and married Munn in July 2024.

What is Everybody's Live with John Mulaney?

The Netflix show is a talk show host airing live on Netflix. After a successful run of six episodes of Everybody's In L.A., one would assume the show won't change dramatically in format.

Each show had a theme that would serve as the episode title. The topic would be a Los Angeles-related topic such as "Coyotes", "Paranormal" or "Earthquakes". The theme would be the subject of the opening monologue, a topic of conversation between guests and live call-in questions.

Richard Kind served as the show's announcer and sidekick, often chatting with Mulaney and acting in segments with the host. The show typically featured several guests, and each one would normally stay for the entire show. The show featured a variety of guests that included comedians, actors, directors, musical performers and subject matter experts. Guests included Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Cedric the Entertainer, Flea, Nikki Glaser and Patton Oswalt.

Some episodes featured pre-taped segments such as a group of comedians (including Fortune Feimster, Earthquake and Langston Kerman) searching for a house in L.A. or Mulaney reuniting with frequent collaborater Nick Kroll to perform as their characters from Oh, Hello. Over the course of the first week, the show changed formats a few times, clearly responding to what was and was not working. We can surely expect Mulaney and the team to tweak the format for this brand-new version of the talk show.

The new season will premiere with an episode on March 12, 2025 and will release weekly on Wednesdays.
