Vallejo murder suspect Maximillian Snyder may be connected to string of killings across the country

(KRON) -- A 22-year-old man arrested last week in Redding in connection to a fatal stabbing in Vallejo earlier this month may be connected to an unusual series of killings across the country. Maximillian Bentley Snyder of Kirkland, Washington, was arrested on Saturday and booked on murder charges for a fatal stabbing at the intersection of Lemon and Third streets in Vallejo.

Officers responded to the scene just after 2:18 p.m. on Jan. 17 and found a man who'd been stabbed. The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Vallejo Police Department homicide detectives responded and took over the investigation. With the assistance of the Solano County District Attorney, Snyder was identified as the suspect.

Vallejo PD obtained a warrant to arrest him. Snyder was located in Redding at 1 a.m. last Friday and arrested by the Redding Police Department on the 1200 block of Churn Creek Road.

A fringe ideological group of 'rationalists'?

Now, connections are surfacing between Snyder and other killings around the country that could be connected to a fringe ideological group of "rationalists," according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle. In November, Snyder appears to have taken out a marriage license in Washington state's King County with Teresa Youngblut.

Youngblut, 21, is currently facing two weapons charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont on Jan. 20. Youngblut, according to the Associated Press, was in "frequent contact" with Snyder.

While in Vermont, however, Youngblut had been traveling with Felix Bauckholt, a German citizen who was also killed in the Jan. 20 shooting. Prior to the shooting, the FBI said the two had been under surveillance for several days after an employee at a hotel they were staying at reported seeing Youngblut with and both of them wearing black tactical gear.

An FBI affidavit indicates that border patrol agents pulled the duo over to conduct an immigration inspection. Youngblut, who was driving, got out and opened fire on the agents. Bauckholt also tried to draw a gun, but was shot.

    'Always wearing black'

Before arriving in Vermont, Bauckholt and Youngblut had rented units in separate duplexes in the same neighborhood in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Bauckholt rented a unit through Airbnb starting in July 2023 and moved to a second unit later that year. Youngblut began renting a unit in November 2024 and paid nearly $10,000 to extend her stay until the end of March.

The owner, who did not want to be identified due to fears for his safety, went to the units regularly to pick up trash and said another man appeared to be living with Bauckholt.

"There were always wearing black and in the back of my mind, this entire time, I'm just thinking, 'What is going on with these people?'" he said.

The owner's last contact with Bauckholt was about a month ago, he said, when Bauckholt was trying to negotiate a more traditional lease instead of using Airbnb. Box trucks were parked outside of both units, he said, and Bauckholt was running an electrical cord to one of them.

“There would be times when I would come to get the trash and as I’m coming up the driveway, he’d be crawling out of the cab,” he said.

Bauckholt had also been in frequent contact with Snyder, according to the Associated Press. AP also reported that Snyder had previously been detained in connection to a double homicide investigation in Pennsylvania.

The victim in the Vallejo stabbing, identified by AP as "C.L." appears to be Curtis Lind, who was attacked on his Vallejo property and died on Jan. 17. Court docs cited by AP said Lind was a witness to a crime who was "intentionally killed for the purpose of preventing his testimony in a criminal proceeding."

Snyder is currently being held in Solano County Jail on murder charges.

Youngblut appeared in a federal court in Burlington, Vermont on Monday and was scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday.

'What in the world is going on with these people?'

Back in North Carolina, the owner of her rental property said he had sent messages to all his renters during a recent cold snap asking them to let their faucets drip to avoid frozen pipes. He didn’t hear back from Bauckholt or Youngblut, but someone renting the other half of Youngblut’s duplex said her hot water wasn’t working. The owner said he went into Youngblut’s unit last week to check the plumbing.

“The thing that struck me the most was that there was a stretcher in the living room. Like, what in the world is going on with these people?” he said.

“The hair on the back of my neck is still up and I just can’t believe it’s being connected to my Airbnb.”
