Friday, the department said police are now searching for a person of interest.

Shortly after the blast, there were frantic moments in the parking lot behind a fast food restaurant and next to a high-rise apartment building at 6th Avenue and Sherman Street.

"It was like a boom — very deep, very deep," Persephone Buergin said.

Buergin was working in a building next to where the explosion took place. Workers in various buildings were not sure what to do.

"They were also freaking out. Did someone crash into the building what's going on? Are we okay?" Buergin said.

The blast was also felt on the 13th floor of an apartment building where Karla Jaramillo lives. The explosion happened near the base of the structure.

"We really didn't know what it was. We thought the building had been struck by lightning, windows were shaking," Jaramillo said.
