The Buccaneers are being sent straight to voicemail.
In a crazy turn of events, Liam Coen is reportedly close to being the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Buccaneers offensive coordinator initially had interest in the job, but decided to return to Tampa Bay reportedly because of the Jaguars decision to keep general manager Trent Baalke in his role.
Since then, owner Shad Khan and Baalke agreed to ‘mutually’ part ways.
Baalke is out, and now Coen looks to be in.
Coen had informed the Jaguars on Wednesday he was staying in Tampa as OC on a new massive contract.
But then Baalke left Duval County and that changed everything.
Khan and the Jags reached back out to Coen to see if would reconsider.
It looks like he has.
Coen is in Jacksonville talking to Khan about becoming the next head coach of the Jaguars.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the Bucs have been trying to reach Coen and have made multiple efforts in doing so, but he has not made contact with them.
While it may look like Coen is doing the Bucs dirty by ignoring them, he is simply taking care of his business.
Coen was the brains behind Baker Mayfield’s best year in the NFLGettyPro Football Network’s Mike Florio posted on social media stating that Tampa deserves zero sympathy.
“Let’s be clear on one thing: The Bucs aren’t victims here,” Florio posted on X.
“They have a history of abruptly changing coaches when it suits their interests.
“Liam Coen has every right to reverse course if he chooses.”
It seems like Coen has done exactly that.
