A rare red weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office as forecasters expect Storm Éowyn to bring winds of up to 100mph.
In some coastal areas, the Met Office has warned the high wind speeds may cause “flying debris resulting in danger to life”.
A major change in the UK’s weather will start today, the Met Office said, as heavy rain and strong gusts hit the country, caused by a powerful jet stream pushing low pressure across the Atlantic and towards the UK after a recent cold spell over North America.
