A POPULAR chain and rival of Cracker Barrel has revealed fans will see a change to their iconic shoestring fries within days.
The casual restaurant made the announcement last week, with the adaptation promising the “highest quality” and “best taste”.
Steak n Shake has revealed its plans to begin frying its iconic shoestring fries the “authentic way”.
Claiming that centuries ago, the same product would have been cooked in 100 per cent beef tallow, the brand has opted to honour its origins.
By the end of next month, an all-natural beef tallow will be used at all locations.
Chris Ward, chief supply chain officer for Steak n Shake, said: “Our fries will now be cooked in an authentic way, 100% beef tallow, in order to achieve the highest quality and best taste.”
While Chief global development officer, Kristen Briede, explained: “The consumer wants the best and deserves the best. By adopting 100% beef tallow, Steak n Shake is delivering the best fries possible.”
The chain was originally founded on Route 66 in 1934.
Ever since then its sites have been serving Original Steakburgers, thin crispy fries and homemade milkshakes.
The account for Steak ‘n Shake posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to make the announcement.
At first they seemed to tease the arrival by posting a poll asking social media users whether fries should be cooked in 100 per cent Beef Tallow.
The next post read: “By the end of February 2025, all locations will use 100% all-natural beef tallow.
“If veg oil broke your heart, our tallow will make you fall in love again.”
That was soon followed by a second which said: “Steak n Shake to Use 100% Beef Tallow. No Cap.”
Quickly gaining traction, the most recent post has gained over 100K likes and 4k comments.
One person commented: “Woohoo Beef Tallow is so good! Maha!”
Another put: “LOVE THIS!!!”
Someone else wrote: “Best advertising you’ve ever had. I’ve never been to one but I’m about to Google where I can find one.”
A fourth said: “I will choose to go to your restaurant more often because of this. Beef Tallow flavor is superior to those seed oils.”
