SEC fines Vanderbilt for storming the court after win over Tennessee

The SEC has fined Vanderbilt for violation of access to competition area policy after fans stormed the court in Nashville when the Commodores took down No. 6 Tennessee 76-75 on Saturday.

Vanderbilt is being hit with a fine of $250,000 for its second offense under the league’s revised policy adopted in 2023. Vandy’s first offense came when fans rushed the field after the Commodores defeated Alabama in football on Oct. 5.

The fine will be paid to Tennessee.

The rivalry showdown with a top-10 Tennessee team resulted in the first sellout at Memorial Gym since 2019. Jason Edwards led the way for Vanderbilt with 18 points.

For Vandy fans, it was a nail-biter. The Commodores went cold on offense over the final 3:48. Tennessee scored the final 9 points of the game, and had a chance to force overtime, but ultimately, Vandy held on for the 1-point win.
