Alabama doesn’t lose very often, but it was coming off an ugly home loss to Ole Miss on Tuesday night and was determined to make amends on Saturday at Kentucky.
Not only did the fourth-ranked Crimson Tide outlast the 8th-ranked Wildcats in a top-10 showdown at Rupp Arena, they continued to set program records. Alabama, which improved to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the SEC, clearly doesn’t mind playing on the road this season. With the 102-97 track meet of a win in Lexington, the Crimson Tide scored at least 85 points for the 5th straight road game, which is tied for the longest single-season streak by any team in SEC history.
Just keep in mind that we’re only in the middle of January, so Alabama will have a few more road games left to shatter that single-season mark if it continues to put up big points away from Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide’s 102 points on Saturday also marked their 3rd 100-point game this season against an AP-ranked team, which is the most in a season since all the way back in 1948-49.
Finally, the big-time bounce-back win over Kentucky (14-4, 3-2 SEC) was Alabama’s 3rd win against an AP Top-10 team this season, which is the most in a season since 1982-83.
Again, keep in mind we’re only in mid-January, so Nate Oats’ team will have ample opportunity to break more new ground.
