THE NBA has made game schedule adjustments amid the ongoing wildfires in the Southern California region, and even the inclement weather in Atlanta.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers were forced to have a few of their games postponed last week due to the deadly fires.
The NBA has announced makeup dates for a total of nine games.
Two of those contests were postponed last week due to the Los Angeles wildfires, and one of those games was postponed due to Atlanta’s wintery conditions.
Additionally, six of the postponed games were done to accommodate the rescheduling.
So the Lakers will host the Charlotte Hornets on February 19 after the January 19 matchup wasn’t played.
The Hornets will return to Los Angeles on March 16 to take on the Clippers, with their previous contest on January 11 also affected by the wildfires.
The Atlanta Hawks will face off against the road team Houston Rockets on January 28 after snowy conditions caused the January 11 game to be postponed.
The rest of the games on the calendar were changed because of the new dates.
The NBA rescheduled the Clippers’ home games against the Chicago Bulls (from January 21 to January 20) and the Washington Wizards (from March 16 to January 23).
The Clippers’ road game against the Jazz, originally set for March 19, will be on February 13.
As for the Lakers, the team’s home game against the Jazz has been moved up one day to February 10.
The Lakers and home-team Jazz will also play each other on March 19 after previously scheduled for a February 13 matchup.
The date for the San Antonio Spurs at Lakers contest, previously set for January 11, has yet to be announced.
Both teams resumed their regular schedule on Monday night as LeBron James’ Lakers lost 126-120 to Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick revealed his rented family home in Southern California burned down from the wildfires.
The Clippers also resumed their play on Monday and earned a 109-98 win over the Miami Heat.
Starting with Wednesday’s home game against the Brooklyn Nets, the Clippers will play six games in the next nine days.
The Los Angeles wildfires have claimed the lives of at least 25 people, destroyed more than 40,000 acres of land, and torched over 12,000 buildings.
Atlanta was hit with snow and ice as falling trees on power lines became an issue – resulting in more than 110,000 customers being left without electricity.
