Over 90 hours below freezing: Timeline for incoming arctic blast

DENVER (KDVR) — An arctic blast is heading to Colorado, leaving Denver with negative temperatures, snow, and the longest hard freeze of the season.

Denver weather: Comfy afternoon before snow, subzero temperatures this weekend

During the workweek, temperatures remain in the 40s and 50s, but for the weekend, a change is coming. Despite the sunny skies, the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking a 93-hour-long hard freeze -- when temperatures stay below freezing for an extended period of time.

    Timeline for the hard freeze

    Clouds build during the day on Friday, and temperatures top out around 40 degrees. However, the weather will shift.

    Light snow, temperatures drop Friday night

    The Pinpoint Weather team said Friday will be in the 40s, but clouds and winds will build, leaving possible light snow after sunset on Friday.

    The temperatures will drop into the teens overnight Friday and snow showers are expected to last throughout the night and into Saturday morning.

    Negatives over the weekend

    While the snow should wrap up midday on Saturday, the cold stays.

    Experts give advice about preparing homes for incoming hard freeze

    The Pinpoint Weather team expects highs on Saturday to remain in the teens with a light breeze averaging 8 mph. Then, temperatures drop when the sun goes down, leaving Denver with negative overnight temperatures and extra clouds into Sunday morning.

    Highs stay in the teens on Sunday with light snow after sunset.

    Arctic blast lasts until next week

    Snow will linger into Monday morning with more negative lows, according to the Pinpoint Weather team.

    Highs are still in the low teens on Monday with gradual clearing later in the day.

    By Tuesday, Denver is back to sunny skies and highs near freezing after another round of negatives on Tuesday morning.
