JERRY Jones has reached out to Deion Sanders about potentially taking over the Dallas Cowboys head coach position.
Sanders has found success rebuilding the football program at Colorado, and it appears that the NFL has come knocking.
On Monday, Sanders revealed to ESPN that he spoke to Jerry Jones about the position and that it is “intriguing.”
“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders said.
“I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing.
“But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
While Sanders shared how much he loves being at Colorado, he notably didn’t say no.
Sanders played five seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Cowboys and stayed in Texas after his career ended.
He was named to the All-Pro team in four of those five seasons.
According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, Sanders and Jones will continue to talk about the position.
In November, Sanders said he wanted to stay put in Colorado, but the departure of his sons to the NFL could have changed his mind.
“I’m happy where I am, man,” Sanders said.
“I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? That means I’m resting.
“I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do.”
NFL fans are intrigued by the prospect of Sanders taking over the Cowboys and shared their thoughts on social media.
“Deion Sanders and Shedeur Sanders coming home. Primetime about to get the Cowboys in the right direction,” one fan said.
“Make americas team primetime again,” another fan said.
“Prime coaching the cowboys is prime time tv,” a third fan said.
“Dallas needs to make headlines somehow, this is it,” a fourth fan said.
“In theory I like it but in practice this would either go really well or really really really bad,” a fifth fan said.
While Sanders is an option, other reports indicate that Jones has Bill Belichick high on his list.
Jones would have to pay $10 million in a buyout to UNC to get Belichick though.
