Jane Seymour is trying to put things into perspective for non-Californians as the massive Palisades and Eaton fires continue to burn across Los Angeles County, with several others contained or near containment—collectively destroying over 60 square miles so far.
"For those who are not in LA, here’s a piece of information to understand the enormity of what we are dealing with," a post from the Irish Wish star detailed.
"The Great Chicago Fire burned 3 square miles and the San Francisco Fire of 1906 burned 4 square miles. The Palisades Fire has burned over 25 square miles, the Altadena (Eaton) Fire has burned over 18 square miles, and as of right now, all of the fires in Los Angeles have burned over 56 square miles. These larger fires are still not contained, so these numbers will eventually be larger."
"For perspective," it concluded, "Manhattan is 22.82 square miles and San Francisco is 46.87 square miles."
"Thought I would reshare this for a little perspective. ?," the actress wrote on Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 12.
According to Cal Fire, three fires were still blazing as of Monday morning, with the Palisades Fire around 14 percent contained and the Eaton Fire around 33 percent contained. The Hurst fire is at 89 percent, while the Kenneth Fire was completely contained over the weekend.
The Palisades Fire's destruction was also updated to about 37 square miles, while the Eaton fire has torn through about 22. According to the Los Angeles Almanac, the City of Angels takes up 501.55 square miles total.
While some homes were miraculously spared as fires ripped through their neighborhoods, many were lost, including those belonging to celebrities like Mandy Moore, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Ricki Lake, Paris Hilton and more.
