Potential Chicago Bears Draft Fits at the Cotton Bowl
Using prospect rankings from CBS Sports, I have listed all the prospects who check in among the top 150 whose teams are playing in tonight’s game.
TEXAS LONGHORNS
Here are some prospects from the University of Texas who play positions the Bears should prioritize filling this offseason:
Kelvin Banks Jr., Texas offensive tackle (9th overall, OT-1) Isaiah Bond, Texas wide receiver (35th overall, WR-5) Cameron Williams, Texas offensive tackle (59th overall, OT-7) Jahdae Barron, Texas cornerback (60th overall, CB-6) Alfred Collins, Texas defensive lineman (95th overall, DL-18) © Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesTexas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. is one of the best offensive line prospects in this draft class. And even though the 2025 NFL Draft is still more than 100 days away, numerous mock drafts have envisioned Banks landing in Chicago. I don’t imagine that will stop anytime soon. The way I see it: If the Bears could come away with the 2025 NFL Draft’s top offensive tackle prospect, I’d be a happy camper.
It is early for me to do a deep dive into potential Bears draft prospects. But that day will come soon enough. In the meantime, I can’t shake how the vibes surrounding Kelvin Banks Jr. remind me of what I am used to seeing “safe” prospects. Maybe Banks doesn’t have a ridiculously high ceiling. However, it seems as if the University of Texas product has a sturdy floor. As far as I’m concerned, unearthing a “safe” plug-and-play lineman prospect with a top-10 pick is the type of draft-day move I would welcome with open arms. And I feel as if quarterback Caleb Williams would feel similarly if his offensive line added the award-winning offensive lineman.
OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
Here are some Ohio State prospects who play positions the Bears should prioritize filling this offseason:
Josh Simmons, Ohio State offensive tackle (19th overall, OT-3) Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State wide receiver (24th overall, WR-3) Jack Sawyer, Ohio State Edge defender (26th overall, EDGE-7) Donovan Jackson, Ohio State interior offensive lineman (27th overall, IOL-2) Tyleik Williams, Ohio State defensive lineman (33rd overall, DL-5) Denzel Burke, Ohio State cornerback (37th overall, CB-4) JT Tuimoloau, Ohio State edge defender (43rd overall, EDGE-9) Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State running back (45th overall, RB-2) TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State running back (76th overall, RB-5) Davison Igbinosun, Ohio State cornerback (78th overall, CB-7) Lathan Ransom, Ohio State safety (99th overall, S-6)Ohio State is loaded with top-tier draft prospects for the umpteenth year in a row. How did this team lose a home game against Michigan in which it was favored by double figures? That loss to the Wolverines will be a little further in the rearview mirror if the Buckeyes can take down the Longhorns. Given this wealth of talent at the disposal of Head Coach Ryan Day, I can understand why OSU is a 6-point favorite going into tonight’s game.
The wildest thing about Ohio State’s squad is that its best pro prospect is an underclassman. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is *NOT* eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. But if you are patient, then the 2027 draft-eligible receiver just might be there for your favorite team. Hopefully, he’ll be on the board when the Bears are picking 32nd overall.
