UK operator Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has selected Jacobs and other partners for its latest £550m ($675.80m) Airfield Infrastructure Framework to support its three airports.

MAG’s portfolio of airports includes Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands. The group served 61.3 million passengers in 2024, contributing £10.6bn to the UK economy.

This framework is expected to span five to eight years, with the aim to support MAG’s ongoing airfield development programmes by continuing to channel investments into airport infrastructure.

Through this awarding, MAG aims to forge sustainable partnerships that align with its overarching goals for capital improvements, ultimately refining the travel experience for its customers.

The scope of the framework encompasses a variety of essential projects. These include runway refurbishments, the expansion of aircraft stands, and upgrades to airfield ground lighting systems.

As part of this framework, Jacobs will deliver services, including planning, advisory, design, and multidisciplinary engineering to enhance strategic airfield infrastructure at all three airports.

Jacobs executive vice-president Kate Kenny said: “We are delighted to continue our relationship with MAG and support the group’s capital development priorities to enhance passenger experience, drive sustainability progress and advance connectivity in the UK.

“With infrastructure resiliency becoming ever more critical, our focus is on delivering projects that not only address today’s demands but are also adaptable to the evolving future needs of aviation.”

The other selected design consultancies and construction specialists are Ove Arup and Partners, Volker Fitzpatrick, Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure, Dyer & Butler, Allied Infrastructure, and Amalgamated Construction.

Arup, serving as the design partner for Lot 1 of the framework, will offer extensive services for a diverse array of projects.

MAG Procurement and Contracts director Terry Fitzmaurice said: “This new framework will foster a more collaborative relationship between MAG and its designers and contractors, which will help MAG meet its capital investment projects across all three airports.

“Working more closely will also help MAG meet its sustainability targets – including net-zero operations by 2038 – through more sustainable supply chain practices.”
