REPORT: Thomas Brown to Interview With the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have an offensive coordinator opening and are reportedly angling to interview a familiar face to Chicago Bears fans.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reports that Bears Interim Head Coach Thomas Brown is on the Seahawks’ interview wish list:

This makes sense. Not only is Brown a quality offensive coordinator candidate, but the Seahawks also just got a good look at him. Putting up three points against Seattle’s defense wasn’t the best audition Thomas Brown could have put out there, but there is enough elsewhere to pique the Seahawks’ interest.

Thomas Brown would be an interesting offensive coordinator candidate

While the Chicago Bears plan on interviewing Thomas Brown for the full-time head coach position, it is highly doubtful that he will get the interim tag stripped and promoted as the team’s next head coach. There simply wasn’t enough on tape to suggest that this franchise should hand over the keys. Don’t get me wrong. Beating the Green Bay Packers was awesome. And I think Bears fans will always be thankful for giving us a fun, season-ending moment. But that one win doesn’t outweigh some of the stuff we saw that filled us with doubt.

With that being said, the reality is that some coaches aren’t meant to be head coaches. And even the ones who are must build up a résumé before making it to that point. For Thomas Brown, I think that build-up looks like an extended look as a team’s offensive coordinator. For what it’s worth, the Bears offense looked like it was at its best when Brown was the OC calling playing from the booth. During that three-game stretch, Caleb Williams averaged 275 passing yards per game, threw 5 touchdowns without tossing an interception, and posted a 99.2 passer rating. That type of production could open some eyes in the interview process.

In the end, I am rooting for Thomas Brown to end up with a solid job somewhere. After dealing with the mess that is the Chicago Bears organization, a soft landing for Brown would be football karma. Plus, you know how the saying goes: Once a Bear, always a Bear. And when you beat the Packers in what might be your final game as a Bears head coach to snap a lengthy losing streak to the cheesedoodles up north, there will always be a soft spot for Brown in this fan base. Go get ’em, TB.
