Kirk Herbstreit has one of college football’s most closely followed X accounts. On Tuesday, he revealed that he does not use the app and the posts from Herbstreit’s account, which has 1.8 million followers, are made by his son.
The X app, formerly known as Twitter, came up during Herbstreit’s appearance with Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman of On3. When Wasserman said that he reads all comments directed at him on the app, Herbstreit revealed that he does not use the app at all.
“I deleted Twitter a long time ago,” Herbstreit said. “I don’t have it. I just have a buddy… My son tweets stuff out.”
“I don’t read anything. I don’t see anything,” Herbstreit added.

— On3 (@On3sports) January 7, 2025Those who follow Herbstreit may have noticed that he was not making all the posts on his account, as video clips of College GameDay segments are often posted during the live show. Most posts, however, were widely assumed to be posted by Herbstreit himself.
Posts from Herbstreit’s account include college football reactions as well as updates of life on the road covering the sport. The Kirk Herbstreit account will also directly engage with critics. One such post on New Year’s Eve, pushing back on a narrative Herbstreit lobbied for Alabama’s inclusion in the College Football Playoff, registered 9 million views.
