‘Haven’t seen that before’, Mike McCarthy’s future at Dallas Cowboys uncertain after NFL fans spot lock room interaction

DALLAS Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy turned heads on social media after a clip showed his interactions with his staffers in the locker room after the Week 18 loss.

The Cowboys lost 23-19 to the Washington Commanders in the regular-season finale game as McCarthy’s future with the team remains unknown.

Following the contest, the veteran head coach McCarthy was seen embracing his assistants upon entering the locker room in a clip posted on X by NBC 5’s reporter Pat Doney.

The fifth-year coach seemed to be emotional while sharing the moments with his co-workers.

Plenty of fans gave their reactions to the sequence, with some believing that McCarthy will not be back after his contract expires on January 14th.

“Looks like he knows it’s over for him in Dallas,” one commented.

“He knows he’s gone,” another wrote.

“Oh McCarthy is so gone I don’t know how to feel,” a third added.

However, others think that the moment means he will stick with the franchise which is owned by Jerry Jones.

“Bro is coming back,” one said.

“I think he’ll be back,” another replied.

“Mike is coming back on a three-year deal,” a third wrote.

McCarthy has three playoff appearances in his five years coaching in Dallas.

However, he has a 1-3 playoff record and couldn’t lead the Cowboys to the postseason this year after the team declined on both sides of the ball and dealt with numerous injuries.

As a result, throughout the season, McCarthy’s future has been under a microscope.

Similar to his commentary during the season, the NFL owner Jones praised McCarthy’s head coaching abilities after the Week 18 game.

“Mike is one of the best coaches that I think there is,” Jones said.

“He was made the coach here because I thought that.

“He’s done absolutely nothing to diminish my opinion of him as a coach, and I’m really impressed with the way the players identify and are inside with him.

“That’s important because he’s had some times when each of those players individually as well as a team have not been fun times.

    “He’s been there for them.”

McCarthy has a 49-35 record with the Cowboys.

The 61-year-old shared that his preference is to stick in Dallas.

“Absolutely. I have a lot invested here, and the Cowboys have a lot invested in me,” McCarthy said.

“And then there’s a personal side to all these decisions. They all point the right direction. … Those are all positive attributes that you take into account. Absolutely, I’m a builder.

    “I believe in building programs.”
