Today is a big day for the multi-taskers among us who are trying to enjoy the first Chicago Bears victory against the Green Bay Packers since 2018 while simultaneously keeping an eye on all of the NFL hiring cycle news on Black Monday.
The Chicago Bears are undefeated in 2025. Talk about starting the new year on a high note. It had been a while since we got a video like this one:Sweet, sweet #VictoryMonday pic.twitter.com/vrSpDza94v

— Kevin Byard (@KevinByard) January 5, 2025 I hope the Bears keep this energy going into their next game against the Packers. To have two competitive games against Green Bay this year isn’t enough for me. Although, I suppose it is a step in the right direction. But how about stringing some wins together in this rivalry? That’s a thought! On the one hand, I don’t want to make too much out of Caleb William’s fourth-quarter game-winning drive. His overall performance wasn’t a pretty one. But on the other hand, he put his team in a position to win — and the squad came through for him. It was gutsy and a pleasure to watch (even if it wasn’t a work of art). Some stats since that awkward Caleb Williams-C.J. Stroud post-game meeting after Week 2: Caleb Williams: 314/496 (63.3%), 3,274 yards, 20 TD, 4 INT, 92.4 passer rating C.J. Stroud: 289/464 (62.4%), 3,233 yards, 17 TD, 12 INT, 84.5 passer rating Yes, I realize Stroud threw just six passes on Sunday because the Texans were resting their regulars ahead of the team’s upcoming playoff matchup. But those numbers should put some things in perspective when it comes to the development of young quarterbacks. DJ Moore fell 34 yards short of posting his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season since joining the Bears. You can point to the midseason lull in games against the Jaguars, Commanders, Cardinals, and Patriots as to why Moore didn’t get to 1,000 yards in 2024. With that being said, Moore *DID* set a new career high in receptions (98). That’s neat. Moore needs just 2,730 yards to become the Bears’ all-time leader in receiving yards. If he doesn’t pass Johnny Morris’ record by the end of his extension in Chicago, something went terribly, terribly wrong. Since the start of the 2022 season, Cairo Santos has made 19 of 22 field goal attempts from 50+ yards. That is a success rate of 86.4 percent from long distance. That number includes the game-winner in Green Bay. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Bears kicked the tires on bringing in some competition for Cairo, but I wouldn’t prioritize it this offseason. This team has bigger fish to fry this offeason. Speaking of special teams, I loved seeing Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower go deep in his bag of tricks in Week 18. Teams out of the playoff race should be required to get tricky, go for every fourth down, and attempt two-point conversions in regular-season finale games moving forward. © Mark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images I wonder if the Bears unlocked a new top return option on Sunday. Josh Blackwell should get a shot at it next year if the team decides to bring him back. There was a moment when Tyler Scott looked OK returning kicks, too. Special teams isn’t a Packers strength this season. But I am totally here for a good, old-fashioned training camp competition among specialists. Running back D’Andre Swift fell 41 yards short of reaching 1,000 rushing yards this season. I can see where folks were disappointed in Swift’s performance in Year 1 in Chicago. However, I can imagine the right offensive coaching staff elevating Swift’s play with the right scheme and usage rate. Pairing him with an explosive partner would be a sneaky way to upgrade the offense. Did you notice Kevin Byard’s big day? The veteran safety racked up 9 solo tackles (14 total), collected 1 sack, 1 tackle-for-loss, and 1 quarterback hit. Byard signed a two-year deal last offseason and that is looking like a wise investment. Lots of good stuff around the Bears beat today including things I read at The Athletic, Tribune, and Sun-Times. This is about to be the background wallpaper for so many phones around Chicago:Bro gave us a classic pic.twitter.com/Ho9YOWYuet
— BOOG (@BoogCB) January 5, 2025 Jaylon Johnson says he lost his cool when flipping off fans at Lambeau Field. But he gave us a tremendous meme format to use moving forward. Sometimes, that is the risk you take. (Sun-Times) Speaking of standing on business, I said what I said here:[image or embed]
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@bn-bears.bsky.social) January 5, 2025 at 12:40 PM Bring back old school logos, you cowards. Also, it is time for graphic designers and logo artists to explain why creativity is down when technology is seemingly at its peak. While players and fans relish the victory, the team is wasting no time in lining up interviews with potential head coach candidates. First up: Detroit Lions Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson and Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn. In addition to hearing out the pitches each will make for why they should be the Bears’ next head coach, Chicago’s front office should use these interviews as an opportunity to gather intel on its rival. The Lions have won back-to-back NFC North titles and are the NFC’s No. 1 seed going into the playoffs. That team is doing something right, so you might as well use these interviews to figure out what is working and how the Bears can follow suit.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Check Out BN Fantasy | Subscribe to The BN Newsletter
In case you missed the Derrick Rose stuff from over the weekend, you can watch the full retirement ceremony and his directorial debut via our friends at BN Bulls. The Chicago Cubs are reportedly among the teams showing an interest in free-agent infielder Yoan Moncada. You might recall Moncada used to play for the White Sox. Over in Hawkeytown, the Chicago Blackhawks lost to the New York Rangers on Sunday to ruin what was otherwise a perfect sports weekend in town. Read More Details
