SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- Highway 1 was closed in both directions Monday morning in Pescadero after a fatal solo vehicle crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 1:40 a.m., CHP responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a tree on Highway 1 near Bean Hollow Road. Arriving officers found a Toyota sedan split in half.
One person was killed in the crash. It is not clear if there were other occupants in the vehicle.

Dense fog blanketed portions of the Bay Area Monday morning, however, CHP said it was not foggy at the time they arrived at the scene. Authorities are looking into speed as a factor in the deadly collision.
Highway 1 was closed for several hours in the early morning before reopening at 5:42 a.m.
