The 76-year-old was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Drama for her role on the CBS drama Matlock.

However, she was beaten by Shōgun’s Anna Sawai and was seen giving a round of applause when the result was read out.

As the Japanese actress, 32, took to the stage, Kathy was spotted destroying her script she’d prepared in case she won.

She was praised for her “real” reaction to losing, with one calling it: “Queen behavior”.

Another said: “Kathy Bates immediately ripping up her acceptance speech after she lost the Golden Globe LOL I love her.”

Someone else added: “Kathy bates ripping up her speech?!?- iconic behavior #GoldenGlobes.”

The 1990 Misery actress got a mention in winner Anna’s speech.

During her big moment, she kindly said: “Thank you to the voters for voting for me, even though I would vote for Kathy Bates any day.”

The pair were up against Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Maya Erskine (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Kiera Knightley (Black Doves), and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).

Kathy made a recent return to television in a reboot of the American legal drama Matlock on CBS.

It’s been renewed for a second season having impressed viewers.

Kathy plays Madeline “Matty” Matlock – a septuagenarian who goes back to work at a prestigious law firm.
