The final Sunday of the NFL’s regular season is here. And while that means the end of the line for the 2024 Chicago Bears, it’s not as if there is nothing to play for in Week 18.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams needs 446 passing yards in order to surpass Erik Kramer’s single-season franchise passing yards record. Kramer’s record seemed more reachable before Williams put up just 122 passing yards in the team’s Week 17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Williams hasn’t had a 400+ yard passing game this season, so it feels as if this record is safe — for now. Wide receiver DJ Moore needs 120 receiving yards to reach 1,000 this season. The Bears haven’t had a wideout go for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since Allen Robinson did it in 2019 and 2020. Since then, Chicaago’s football team has had just two 1,000-yard receivers: Darnell Mooney (2021) and DJ Moore (2023). Do you remember when projections forecasted the Bears to have three 1,000-yard receivers in 2024? Maybe A.I. isn’t everything it is as cracked up to be.BN ON BLUESKY: Bears … Cubs … Bulls … Blackhawks
I'm just trying to see how folks reply to a poll question.Do you like the idea of Jon Gruden as #DaBears next head coach?
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) January 4, 2025 For so many reasons, I just can’t see the Bears having an interest in Jon Gruden. The fit just doesn’t make sense. Besides, the Bears can go in so many other more intriguing directions than a retread coach who hasn’t won a playoff game in 20+ years. If you’re looking for something to root for today, here you go: Panthers to beat the Falcons Jaguars to take down the Colts Jets to top the Dolphins Raiders to knock off the Chargers In a world where all of those things happen *AND* the Bears lose to the Packers, then we could see the Chicago’s draft position jump into the top-5. I’d hate that a season that began with so much promise and hope ends with a pick in the top-5. It would also be annoying to lose to the Packers for the umpteenth time. Oh, and you should definitely be rooting the Lions to beat the Vikings. You might’ve missed a new Bears head coach candidate’s name springing up on Saturday. There are also rumors about how an Indianapolis Colts front office shakeup could impact the Chicago Bears. There is lots of stuff happening ahead of what I am already expecting to be a wild offseason.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Check Out BN Fantasy | Subscribe to The BN Newsletter
