Today we want to use this space to thank all of the people who donated to our Holiday Food Bank Fund Drive this year. While there may be more last-minute donations to count, we stand today with a fund raised of a little more than $114,000, well over our goal of $100,000.
This community has always shown its generosity during this drive and we are so grateful for all of you who took the time to help. Your donations are really what keeps this critical local service going. The Food Bank has been able to make improvements over the years, but the basic costs of refrigeration, keeping the lights on, keeping the tiny staff in place and the doors open is what this drive is about.
We all know how hard it has been lately to keep food on the table and for seniors, the disabled, veterans on fixed incomes and working families with mouths to feed, the Food Bank is a life saver. In Ukiah our Food Bank is a friendly place where the incredible volunteer staff makes everyone welcome. For some volunteers it is their way of giving back from times when they themselves needed the Food Bank. The sense of community is strong at the Food Bank and people not only get food for the table but find resources to help with all too common problems like homelessness or mental health needs.
Once again we’d like to give credit and thanks to this year’s kickoff sponsors who gave us such a great start: T.R. Eriksen Trust $50,000, George and Ruth Bradford Foundation $5,000, Redwood Credit Union $5,000, Anonymous $2,000, Mabel Albertson Foundation Fund $2,000, Mendocino Community Health Clinics $2,000, Donald and Lynda Coursey $1,500, Savings Bank of Mendocino County $1,000, Stephen and Elizabeth Pasternak $1,000, John A and Marie Behnke $500, McCarty’s Auto Body $500, JT and Jacqueline Williams $500, Nathaniel England $250, Kerry Schrock $100.
The Ukiah Daily Journal is proud to sponsor this campaign each year and we are always blown away by your response.
Thank you!
