Derrick Rose is about to celebrate his retirement with 21,000 of his closest friends!
The Chicago Bulls will welcome the franchise legend back into the United Center this evening. Fans will be allowed into the building at 5:00 p.m. CT to start the festivities. They can start their night with the Derrick Rose Atrium Experience, which will display memorabilia and personal mementos from Rose’s iconic career. Fans will also receive a commemorative t-shirt, as well as have a chance to grab a limited supply of specialty roses.
From there, Rose will be honored throughout the Bulls’ matchup with the New York Knicks. This will include the airing of a Rose-directed short film, as well as a halftime ceremony. For as eventful as the night will be, however, it is only part of what has already been a jam-packed week for the Chicago native. Rose opened a pop-up shop where he met fans, returned to Simeon High School to play hoops with his son, and officially unveiled “The Rose Garden” in Englewood.
Photo via the Chicago BullsThe latter event also happened to be where Rose received a tear-jerking surprise. Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that January 4, 2025, will officially be known as “Derrick Rose Day” in the city of Chicago. That’s right, folks, it’s a holiday!
The Bulls shared the moment Mayor Johnson made the announcement, and the pure shock on Rose’s face says it all.
