DENVER (KDVR) — Active winter weather has returned to Colorado as the Denver weather forecast is going to be much colder and snowier over the coming days. The Pinpoint Weather team is tracking accumulating snowfall for Saturday into Sunday, with more opportunities for snow in the week ahead.
First, dense fog is expected to develop overnight Friday through Saturday morning in metro Denver and northeast Colorado. Given the temperatures below freezing, freezing fog will be a possibility.
Next, a winter weather advisory has been issued for elevations above 9,000 feet for Saturday because of accumulating snow and expected hazardous road conditions. Mountain traffic is expected to be high this weekend; allow yourself extra time to reach your destination.
Snowfall will be highest in the high country west of Interstate 25, and the Eastern Plains. The Denver metro area may see a trace to 2 inches of snowfall through Sunday morning.

Weather tomorrow: Snow returns
Much cooler Saturday as snow returns in the afternoon.Saturday will start dry before snow develops in the high country early in the afternoon. Snowfall is expected in the Denver metro area and the plains starting in the mid-to-late afternoon. Snowfall will be heaviest in the mountains and eastern plains, especially Saturday evening and night.
Looking ahead: Extended cold weather
After a very warm December, winter has finally returned to kick off January. Extended below-normal temperatures are in the forecast for the upcoming week.
Sunday will be quite cold for the Denver Broncos game against the Kansas City Chiefs with highs only near 30 degrees and falling through the game.
