Darnold has enjoyed a remarkable comeback season and has the Vikings sitting at 14-2.

They could clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win over the Detroit Lions in Week 18.

The First Take crew previewed the showdown on Sunday night.

And Smith said, “Darnold deserves credit, we know he’s had a stellar season.

“But the man hasn’t thrown for 300 yards since November 24 against Chicago.

“I’m just throwing it out there – let’s not act like this is the second coming of Dan Marino.”

But Darnold threw for 347 yards and five touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons on December 8.

He also had 377 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers on December 29.

Smith continued, “Can we pump the brakes a little and have the mentality of ‘let’s see’?”

“Everybody else has to show it, how come he doesn’t have to show it? Let’s see.”

Fans noticed Smith’s questionable stats and commented on X.

One asked, “So does he apologize for yelling inaccurate info or maybe just doesn’t matter?”

Another said, “This is why I can’t watch this show. He just threw for 377 yards this past Sunday.”

While a third posted, “He’s literally thrown for 2 career highs in passing yards since that Bears game.”

Darnold is fourth in the league in passing yards in 2024 with 4,153.
