Torras Ostand 360 iPhone 16 Pro Max Case REVIEW

Efficient Multi-Functional Grip-Ring Kickstand

According to 2022 Statista data, smartphones were in the top four most purchased electronic gifts, with ~50 million purchases. With so many smartphone gifts, I imagine people would need screen protectors and smartphone cases. This holiday season, look to Torras for a fantastic iPhone upgrade. When searching for the perfect Christmas Smartphone accessory, consider a MagSafe-friendly protective case with an upgraded 360-degree, four-position locking kickstand. After testing the case, I appreciated their motto, “Stabler stand, freer rotation.”

The Torras Stand Case for iPhone 16 Pro Max arrived in a 3 7/8 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches tall by 11/16 inches thick retail package.  Instead of using a white background, like so many other devices, the company brilliantly utilized a matte black background.  The TORRRAS name was listed in a vibrant orange font at the top left of the cover panel, which contrasted nicely against the dark backdrop.  The remainder of the cover provided a generic STAND CASE “Make Your Stand” name and a geometric concentric semicircular design.  I liked the shimmering metallic motif, but would have loved a more unique name like the Torras “Stanchion,” for example.  The bottom panel listed company contact information, while the back panel listed a multilingual “about us” panel, three product feature icons (horizontal/vertical kickstand, shock at drop protection, anti-scratch resistance), a few product manufacturing labels, and a UPC barcode sticker.

I lifted the top panel and slid the clear inner tray from the packaging.  You will find a plastic-wrapped, 1.9-ounce, 7/16 inches thick by 6 9/16 inches tall by 3 3/16 inches wide iPhone 16 Pro Max case and an orange-colored pop-up thank-you card.  The card provided a warranty activation QR code, “[email protected]” address, and a fun spaceman/rocket icon.  The case’s rear surface had a pleasant flat pink-tan color for the clay case and a nice flat grey color for the grey case.  The case had a 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 9/16 inches tall by 1/16 inches thick, raised camera cutout at the top left of the case.  The central aspect had a 2 1/4 inches diameter by 1/4 inches thick magnetic/metallic ring attached to a lower hinge.  The top of the pink copper ring had a silicone finger grip cutout. Slide your finger into the cutout, pull outward, and activate the kickstand.  Once deployed and perpendicular to the case’s surface, the device measured ~3 inches tall.

The rear hinge mechanics allowed the magnetic kickstand to extend/retract and rest flush with the backing when retracted.  The case provided no magnetic segment except for the kickstand.  You can turn/rotate the kickstand into any position around the circle, but you will experience a clicking lock at each 90-degree position. Deploy the kickstand for vertical viewing and then rotate the stand 90 degrees for horizontal mode.  The multi-positional rotating hinge solved the angle problem experienced in other cases. Thanks to the rigid hinge segment and the locking mechanism, you can adjust the stand’s angle for more optimized viewing. When finished, store the stand into the case’s back plate for storage or MagSafe charging.

The right side panel had a 5/16 inches long by 1/8 inches tall raised capture button and dual 15/32 inches long by 1/8 inches tall volume buttons. The left side panel had a 23/32 inches long by 1/8 inches tall power button and a 13/16 inches long by 3/16 inches tall camera action button cutout.  The bottom panel had a 9/16 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall USB-C cutout, a 9/16 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall left speaker cutout, and 3/8 inches long by 1/8 inches tall right side speaker cutout.  Lastly, you will find a 1/16 inches diameter circular speaker cutout toward the outer side of the smaller speaker cutout port.  The case’s inner plastic backplate lacked cutouts or heat dissipation design; it listed the Torras name and had a wireless MagSafe integration ink outline.

I installed the 1.9-ounce case onto my iPhone 16 Pro Max (9.8-ounces) and found the case securely hugged my smartphone. The front screen’s protective edges jutted ~1/16 inches above the screen, providing a reduced chance against glancing blows.  Additionally, the feature allowed me to rest my iPhone on a table with less concern about breaking/scratching the case. erior camera bezel served the same purpose as the raised screen edges.  I found each button had a responsive click-feel and easily activated the phone’s features.  The case did not interrupt/impede the addition of a screen protector, nor did it block access to the USB-C port or the camera button.  Each inner corner had slight indentations to create an air pillow in case of a dropped phone.

The main differentiating factor for the Torras case was the robust kickstand.  I liked the design, the ability to rotate the stand 360 degrees, the ability to enjoy vertical and horizontal viewing, and the integration of MagSafe capability into the design.  I loved the ability to deploy the stand and then to retract the stand back into the case.  This feature eliminated my need to carry an extra stand like the Nite-Ize Quickstand. The built-in stand provided multiple viewing angles for added convenience.  Lastly, the kickstand served as an extra camera grip companion when held in landscape mode.

I would have liked more information about the case design, features, drop protection, construction/materials, and a picture of the kickstand.  I liked the three product icons on the packaging’s rear panel but was surprised that there were no technical specifications on the packaging or instruction manual (none included).  I liked the grey color but felt the clay color was a bit too pink for my liking.  In fact, when I purchased the iPhone 16 Pro Max, I returned the Desert Titanium color due to a similar issue.  The grey case backing was semi-translucent and allowed some visualization of the iPhone.  I liked this feature more than the solid clay case’s back design.  Lastly, the clay case had slightly raised, obliquely angled linear segments at the corners of the back panel.  I do not believe the features added to the design and felt more like scratches, blemishes, or imperfections when viewing the case at a glance.  The website noted that they were supposed to align with a clock face.

    Conclusion:

A quick website search showed that the 360-Degree Spin Stand case was available in “precise cutout” and “camera button” models and had a few different colors (clear, titanium grey, desert gold, and black).  The PC/PMMA/TPU case + aluminum alloy stand promised up to 8-foot drop rating, 18N+N52 magnetic strength, and secure attachment.  I was impressed with the features and sub $50 price point.  I believe the packaging needs some updates to improve the advertising/allure. Regarding the price, the Torras kickstand case punches above its weight class and is superior to other stand-style cases.
