Harvey Fierstein, the actor who memorably starred in Mrs. Doubtfire alongside Robin Williams and Sally Field, shared his honest opinion of drugs used for weight loss following his personal experience with one popular medication.
Fierstein, 72, revealed in an interview with Page Six that he lost more than 100 pounds as part of his recent weight loss journey. “At the most, I lost 120, and then I put 15 back on, which, I’ve sort of stayed at that,” he said during the interview, which was published on Sunday, Dec. 22.

The Independence Day actor estimated that his weight topped out at around 310 pounds. He attributed the uptick in recent years to the COVID-19 pandemic, an era in which he “existed on the screen of my Zoom.” Fierstein said he has now settled at about 200 pounds.
The Tony Award winner credited his recent weight loss to Zepbound, a medication used for the treatment of obesity. While Fierstein noted that his weight has fluctuated throughout his life, he said his experience with losing weight has been different this time around.
“What’s different is what the drug actually does for you. Which is, I don’t feel like I’m dieting, and I feel like a normal person,” he told Page Six. "I can go and have dinner with friends and not have to eat every piece of bread on the table—and not then go have ice cream when I’m done with dinner. I know what it is to be full, like a normal person.”
The Broadway actor then shared a brief reflection on the larger conversation surrounding weight loss medication. “People don’t understand that being fat is not a choice,” he said. “It’s something that, your body’s out of whack. And this puts your body in whack. So I’m a great believer in it.”
