Bears Injury Watch: Braxton Jones Carted Off, Teven Jenkins Doubtful to Return

The Chicago Bears will likely finish what has been a lopsided game against the Detroit Lions to this point without the starters on the left side of the offensive line.

Left guard Teven Jenkins is doubtful to return to the game due to a calf injury. You might recall that Jenkins missed two practices last week because of a calf injury. Aggravating an already tough injury isn’t what the doctor ordered. Jake Curhan has taken Jenkins’ place in the lineup. Meanwhile, left tackle Braxton Jones was just carted off the field after suffering an apparent leg injury, which the team is calling an ankle injury in the announcement officially ruling out his return. It is just a brutal time to be watching the Bears right now. And seeing two offensive linemen leave with injuries doesn’t make it any easier.

As it stands, the Bears’ offensive line looks like this (from left to right): Larry Borom, Jake Curhan, Coleman Shelton, Matt Pryor, Darnell Wright. An already shaky line being down two starters and working with a swing tackle masquerading as a starting right guard makes things all the more unstable. Let’s give this some additional perspective (via Mark Potash of the Sun-Times):

The #Bears' current offensive line of Larry Borom-Jake Curhan-Coleman Shelton-Matt Pryor-Darnell Wright is their 21st different combination this season and 63rd in three seasons under GM Ryan Poles.

For what it’s worth, the Bears have scored a touchdown. But scoring after falling behind 20-0 simply doesn’t register with me. We’ll have more updates as this game continues.
