Detroit Lions Injury Report: A Mixed Bag

The Detroit Lions received a range of updates on player injuries ahead of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, reflecting both optimism and lingering uncertainty. Taylor Decker, D.J. Reader, Zadarius Smith, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Kevin Zeitler all returned to full participation in Thursday’s practice after being given a rest day on Wednesday, signaling their readiness for the upcoming game.

However, the situation is more concerning for Graham Glasgow, who is dealing with a knee injury sustained during last week’s game against the Bills. While Head Coach Dan Campbell expressed earlier in the week that Glasgow was “a little sore but came out okay,” his absence from two consecutive practices raises serious doubts about his availability for Sunday.

Running back David Montgomery is also facing uncertainty with an MCL injury to his right knee. Montgomery is reportedly seeking a third medical opinion on the injury, and while an IR stint has not been finalized, he will surely miss Sunday’s game against his former team, the Chicago Bears.

Center Frank Ragnow, initially listed as a non-participant on Wednesday for rest, appeared on the Thursday injury report with a back issue. Ragnow has had a relatively injury-free season after battling significant issues last year, including a torn pectoral. Despite this new development, there is little concern that he will miss Sunday’s game.

Defensive back Brian Branch, who did not practice Wednesday, returned to limited participation Thursday, a positive sign that he may be available for the game. Meanwhile, Ifeatu Melifonwu was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day as he worked to return from a hand injury. Melifonwu’s 21-day window to be activated from injured reserve now has 19 days remaining, and while the chance of him playing Sunday appears slim, it is not entirely out of the question.

Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who has been on injured reserve, also made progress by practicing Thursday, which marked the start of his own 21-day evaluation window to return to the active roster. This was somewhat unexpected, as Campbell had expressed skepticism earlier in the week about Reeves-Maybin’s ability to return soon.

On a more positive note, linebacker Trevor Nowaske, who missed last week’s game due to a concussion, logged full practices on Wednesday and Thursday. This strong recovery trajectory suggests that Nowaske is on track to suit up on Sunday.
