Jelly Roll Fans Divided After He Defends Meeting Donald Trump

Jelly Roll fans are at an impasse after his recent explanation for meeting Donald Trump.

Recently, the "Son of a Sinner" singer sat down with his wife, Bunnie Xo, on the latest episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast.

Jelly Roll addressed criticism from fans stemming from video clips of a brief interaction with Trump during the UFC 309 event in New York City last month, where Jon "Bones" Jones and Stipe Miocic fought at Madison Square Garden.

Unfortunately, his explanation was not well-received by all, leading to further criticism in the days following.

"Dude, there’s not a chance in hell that I’m not going to meet the president-elect. I don’t care," he said, adding that if he "got a call to meet Joe Biden," he would have dropped everything, too.

"That’s the active president. I don’t care about what he thinks or I think about policies," the country crooner said.

Jelly Roll added, "I’m not political...I like to talk about things I’m passionate about [but] I don’t know enough about politics to act like I know anything that’s going on or what anybody’s standing for policy-wise."

Although the singer didn't grow up in a home where his parents encouraged him to get out and vote, "they did push respecting the president," which he thinks is "the hardest job in the world."

In the end, Jelly Roll said it was "cool" to meet Trump, and any "blowback" he receives for it is far from the top of his mind—which is good, because there's a decent amount of it happening on X in response to his new commentary.

One called him "loud and wrong" for the statement, while others believed that he was able to make the statement due to his "privilege."

"But like, shouldn’t you know what’s going on in the world, or at the very least the country you live in?" one questioned. "I love Jelly Roll but people need to be informed."

"In the year 2024 to still say one is not political, is an embarrassment," another bold response read. "You’re a grown...man, Jelly and have a platform. S--t take."

But many appreciated his views, too, with one encouraging, "Stand on business Jelly Roll, you don’t owe anyone an explanation."

"He can do what he wants!" another declared, with a third appreciating that he was "keeping it real—respecting the office, not the politics."
