‘Criminal Minds’ Star Zach Gilford Is Unrecognizable in Shocking New Photos ...Saudi Arabia

Zach Gilford is on the mend after a health scare left his face seriously swollen and distorted past recognition. 

Earlier this week, the 42-year-old Criminal Minds: Evolution actor documented the uncomfortable symptoms that landed him in the hospital on Monday in a series of photos he uploaded to his Instagram Story on Dec. 17.

"Sooooooo.." he captioned the first selfie, which captured what appeared to be the beginning stages of his health emergency. "Yesterday was fun," he added of the photo, which showed the actor barely able to open his eyes as he battled serious swelling. 

A little while later, Gilford shared a second selfie. This time, he wore a medical mask and appeared to be in the hospital as the swelling became much more severe, extending past his eyes and into his cheeks and forehead. At this point, the Friday Night Lights star likely struggled with his eyesight, as the swelling forced one eye completely shut and the other appeared strained as he attempted to hold it open.

"Good thing we wrapped @criminalminds last week," he joked in text over the image.

He eventually concluded with a picture of good news: significantly decreased swelling and the ability to once again open his eyes in a third image he uploaded to the picture-sharing platform. Here, he looked much more like his usual self, still on the mend.

Gilford never revealed what caused the swelling or what was done to treat the inflammation, but he did share his appreciation for all those who jumped into action to help treat him.

"Thanks to all the nurses, doctors and staff at @huntingtonhospital for coaxing my face back to normalcy," he concluded. 

The latest season of the hit police procedural (now known as Criminal Minds: Evolution) wrapped up this past summer. And now that Gilford confirmed the show finished filming last week, it's only a matter of time before CBS reveals when fans can expect new episodes of Criminal Minds.
