In a video shared by ESPNCricinfo, Anil Kumble congratulated Ashwin for his fantastic career and for being a champion bowler and a match-winner for India. The Karnataka spinner said that he was disappointed that he ended his career without going past the 619-wicket mark in Tests, a record held by Kumble himself.
“Congratulations Ash on a fantastic career. You have been a champion bowler and all-rounder for India and will be surely missed. It is not easy carrying that kind of expectations day in and day out. You have done that and have been a match-winner for India. I for one am a bit disappointed that you ended your career today. Ideally, I would have wanted to see you go beyond 619. But I’m sure you have your own reasons for that,” Anil Kumble said.
