Katharine McPhee is opening up about the decades-wide age gap between her and her husband, famed music producer David Foster.
The singer and actress, 40, recently shared an anecdote regarding her marriage to 75-year-old Foster and addressed their age difference in the process.

While on tour in New Jersey with Foster last week, McPhee spoke candidly about how the couple first met 18 years earlier on the set of American Idol. The former contestant, who placed fifth on the singing show back in 2006, said she would get starstruck whenever celebrities would come to the show.
But when Foster came around, she had no idea who he was. The Daily Mail reports that McPhee said “I'd call my mom and say, ‘Mom, you'd never believe who it is this week! And this week, it's Andrea Bocelli…and a producer,’” noting that she didn’t recognize her future husband’s name.
“And she was like, ‘Kat, you know exactly who David Foster is because he's only written and produced every song, every artist when you were growing up,’” McPhee continued.
She also addressed their age difference, quipping to the audience, “We have a slight age difference in case you guys didn't notice that.”
The two remained friends for years after they initially met, but it wasn’t until June 2019 that they got married, welcoming son Rennie David Foster in February 2021.
Earlier this year, McPhee took to TikTok with a tongue-in-cheek message to those who may question their relationship, using a viral sound to drive her point home.
As text on the video read "Why'd you marry David Foster...?" McPhee looked directly into a makeup mirror and lip-synced “Because it's iconic. And I love to do iconic s---.”
