For over 12 years, it has been a tradition with MCAVHN to prepare and serve Thanksgiving dinners on the day before the holiday to program participants and friends in our community and outlying areas.
Unlike our forbearers of 1621, we were not able to hunt for wild table food; instead, we opted for the more traditional main fare.
Wednesday early morning, staff, volunteers and board members formed assembly lines putting meal servings together for delivery by lunchtime. Portions of turkey, scoops of stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, a slice of pumpkin pie, and a scoop of Ambrosia Salad were portioned into to-go containers, then placed in delivery bags with a dinner roll, plastic ware, and a small bottle of water.
Our focus this year was the unhoused here in the interior of Mendocino County. With policy changes taking place at the state level and trickling down through the counties we know there is a need of further support for this population. Although supportive services are offered throughout the county, our approach is always well received. It is our pleasure to go the distance to locate and provide a meal to the unhoused.
Thanksgiving dinners were delivered to various organizations in need, including:
Building Bridges Homeless Resource Center, a 60-bed collaborative homeless resource center Extra meals for the Building Bridges Day Center OAK House Redwood Valley House Willits Daily Bread Corporation The un-housed Encampments in various locations Drop-ins at 148 ClaraMany thanks go to the donations made by local merchants, other organizations, and private citizens for their generous contributions – without them, this could not have happened.
Event Of The Heart 2025 is coming
