In an emotional and unforgettable pageant, Victoria Kjær Theilvig has been crowned Miss Universe 2024. The 21-year-old beauty from Denmark triumphed at the 73rd Miss Universe competition held on Saturday night in Mexico City, where she was awarded the title by the reigning Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios, marking a significant milestone as the first Nicaraguan to win the crown.
Competition Highlights Theilvig's victory is particularly remarkable as she becomes the first Danish contestant to win the Miss Universe title, ending a 61-year wait since Denmark last had a representative in the top five. Following her were Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria as the first runner-up and María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa from Mexico as the second runner-up.
The event took place at the Mexico City Arena, a venue that can accommodate 20,000 spectators, filled with cheering fans waving flags from around the world. The evening kicked off with a vibrant performance by 131 mariachi musicians and singer Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, who performed “Mexicana,” a song composed by Emilio Estefan specifically for the pageant.
The gala was hosted by Mario López, along with former Miss Universes Olivia Culpo and Catriona Gray, and presenter Zuri Hall. This year’s competition featured over 120 contestants, with several countries participating for the first time, including Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan. This marks the third occasion that Mexico has hosted the Miss Universe event.
