Though we’re past Halloween, a recent article in the HuffPost brought back memories of a column from a few years ago. It involved a woman named Dorris Reed, who bought a house in Nevada County, California only to learn from neighbors, to her horror, of a different horror: some ten years before her purchase, a woman and her four children had been murdered in the house. Ms. Reed also learned that this lowered the value of her property. So, arguing that the seller concealed this from her, she sued, arguing that the seller should compensate her for the reduced value or take back the house. Eventually, a court agreed.
